MISSING MONEY
I believe missing money is so misunderstood - if you learn nothing else, remember these 2 websites and check them every year as they are updated at least yearly.

MissingMoney.comThis site is one of my favority that searches most state unclaimed funds databases.
Though it is not a catch all - it sure cuts down time in searching multiple sites.
Unclaimed.orgThis is my second favorite site. This links to each and every state's unclaimed database
and posts additional hints and sites to search.
What are Unclaimed Funds?  Rental deposit, Insurance claim, financial account, paycheck, rebates, forgotten bank accounts, ..
the list is practically endless
Funds can be in a Person's name, A business name, &/or A deceased relative.
Warning:Many websites require you to pay for this information. -- Don't do it.
You may get called by a "Tracer." A Tracer is a person assigned to find you and alert you about unclaimed funds - yet They will often require up to 50% finders fee upon recovering your funds. -- Don't do this either!
Tracers are often HIRED by the very same companies holding YOUR MONEY.
Get all the information you can out of a tracer (type of holding, state where held, etc) most won't tell you but try anyway -- the more information you get the easier it is to find the money yourself.
Why Look for Funds? When I have approached Friends, Family, & Business Associates with unclaimed funds in their name...
Most don't believe it. But are happy when I prove them wrong.
Others are amazed. Like my father & aunt when I found a claim under a deceased relative for over $12,000!
I've recovered funds of all sizes - the largest being $33,000 in 2006 in association w/ forgotten property
sold for back taxes yet the owner's widow was eligable for the money over and above the back taxes.

Federal and State information on Unclaimed Funds/Assets can be found on the Dept of Treasury Websites
